Introduction

Welcome to this site about metadata. This site provides information to teachers and other people who work in an educational setting or are just interested in the topic of metadata. The aim of the site is to give you insight into the ways of using metadata for educational purposes. Metadata can provide greater functionality and choice of learning materials, and less technical hassles in using Internet-based learning environments.

In this site metadata is regarded in the context of the Candle project. The Candle project is the frame of reference for the way in which metadata in this site is explained. Metadata will be considered theoretically and practically -IMS and Ariadne- . Also a connection between metadata and education is made.

A relevant link to a metadata-tool, developed at the University of Twente, can be found on this site to give a tangible example of a metadata application.
